Volunteer Opportunity - Board of Directors

The SD&G Community Futures Development Corporation (SD&G CFDC) is non-profit organization that works in partnership with Industry Canada and the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry to support strategic economic development and planning for the area and to promote the SD&G CFDC’s innovative programs, partnerships and strategic
linkages. The SD&G CFDC provides business loans, business development assistance & counselling, as well as access to venture capital to local entrepreneurs.

The Corporation is seeking individuals to serve on the Board of Directors who:

  • reside and/or own businesses in SD&G;
  • are competent in business/financial/investment analysis

Board members meet every 6-8 weeks for general oversight, policy development and financial review.

The organization is operated by professional, full time staff. Executive staff manages the human resources, financial, programming and administrative functions with support from employees qualified in economic development, community economic development, lending and communications.

Board members are asked to participate in committees:

Investment Committee – receives applications and makes decisions about the disbursement of capital to local businesses (start-up, expansion, re-structuring).

  • Applications are received, vetted through the office
  • Staff provide counselling and direction to clients
  • Due diligence is performed by staff
  • Staff prepare presentations for committee review
  • Committee receives applications which include project description, financial statements and other required documentation, the staff analysis
  • Committee makes final decisions concerning lending and the requirements for security based on staff recommendations

Planning Committee – reviews strategy with respect to the organization’s programming and
receives applications and makes final decisions about the disbursement of the Eastern
Ontario Development Program to local businesses and non-profit organizations.

Nominations Committee – conducts the search for candidates to form and maintain a
balanced and qualified board of directors

Ad hoc Committees – may be formed from time to time for specific needs as they arise.
